New London Restaurant Reviews

I've been out and about reviewing recently - mostly repeat visits although I did try out Mela Restaurant, a rather more upmarket Indian restaurant in central London.

My local, Chez Bruce, also got another visit for Mother's Day (parents loved it), as did Thomas Cubitt - that rather good gastro-pub cum upstairs fine dining just off Ebury St, Victoria, London.

Plus we've had loads more reader reviews submitted to the main London Restaurant Review website.

Press release from the Manager at Shanghai Blues below:

Shanghai Blues is proud to present a creative new live music session for those who want to see off the weekend with a spark of inspiration. Sunday Soul is the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind before the start of the new week.

SUNDAY THE 11th OF MARCH 2007 7:30pm-10:30pm
Greg Soussan and Jo Harrop

Thank to "Home", a surprisingly mature debut album, Greg Soussan a young French guitarist based in London has established himself a promising jazz and soul musician. Since then Greg has performed in many UK venues to promote his album and has collaborated with numerous musicians in order to mantain the spontaneity of his live performance and the freshness of his compositions.

Jo Harrop can often be found in a variety of venues across the capital. She performes classic soul and jazz material which she interprets with her captivating and personal style. Smoothe and sultry is what Jo does best and her performances are often described as sensual and moving.

We are offering a complimentary cocktail, sponsored by Pernod Ricard, for everyone who reserves a table in advance   .

We are looking forward to welcome you to our exciting new event.

Kindest Regards
Andrew Hung

Vicar's Choice Sauvignon Blanc 2006

I popped into Majestic the other day since I had run out of decent white wine and found this absolute gem.

I find a good rule of thumb for new world Sauvignon is to drink youngest available.  This one hits the mark for me - citrusy, sharp without being acidic and the perfect wine to drink on its own or with fish or chicken.  It gets a 10/10 from me and should be drunk up in the next 12 months to enjoy it at its best.

Majestic have it on offer at the moment - £8.99 reduced to £7.49 if you buy more than two bottles.

More details can be found here.

I would get it while you can.

Lagunilla Reserva Rioja 2001

A few days ago I wrote about one of the current Sainsburys wine offers - Lagunilla Reserva Rioja 2001

I served it at a dinner party we had last Saturday.  Upon opening, it tasted past its best, so my first thought was the Sainsburys were clearly offloading it a little too late.  But I decanted it for about 2 hours before serving and the result was much improved.

It still tasted a little watery but was much much smoother and so I have given it the benefit of the doubt and rated it a 6.5 out of 10 (before decanting it would have been a 3/10).
